Pyramid Lake

We had a great trip out to Pyramid Lake with the Reno Fly Shop. Mike Anderson is a fabulous guide and we highly recommend him if you're planning your first trip out there or just wanting to learn more about fishing this amazing water.

The conditions seemed a little tough; high temps, virtually no cloud coverage and just a little wind. With that wind though, it brings the fish in closer and gave us a chance at some quality fish. Slow stripping beetles and buggers was the name of the game. We'd fish them right off the bottom and also just under the surface and we all picked up fish. The fish of these fish is just incredible and reminded me a bit of fishing for Redfish in Louisiana. The big fish of the day was 12.5 pounds caught by Matt. Matt, the lucky bugger, just quietly kept bringing fish in all day so to top everything off he not only caught the biggest but the most. We had a record to chase as well during the day. We quickly got 2 doubles on the board and Mike let us know the record is 5 doubles in a day for him. We made it to 4 doubles with about 3 hours to go. We thought we'd crush the record but the 5th tying double came with only 1.5 hours left and we couldnt ever hook up simultaniously again. We all walked away satisfied though and have plans to get back out next March and do more than just a one day trip.
